When it comes to extra storage space, Murray Bridge residents seem to prefer the convenience of a carport over a garage, new research has found.
A study by local firm Carports Central found that nearly two-thirds of respondents (64%) said they would choose a carport over a garage if they had the choice.
The research, which polled 1,000 people across Australia, found that people preferred carports because they were cheaper to build ( cited by 38% of respondents) and easier to maintain (30%).
Other popular reasons included that carports didn’t require planning permission (26%), and they take up less space than a garage (22%).
“The results of our study suggest that, for many people, the convenience and cost-savings of a carport are simply too good to pass up,” Carports Central Managing Director Darren Mitchell said.
“A carport is a great way to add extra storage space to your property without incurring the expense and hassle of building a garage.”
Mr Mitchell said the findings were particularly relevant in Murray Bridge, where space was often at a premium.
“Many people in Murray Bridge are looking for ways to make the most of their small blocks, and a carport is one way to do that,” he said.
“A carport can provide shelter for your car, boat or trailer, and it can also be used as an entertaining outdoor area.
“If you’re tight on space, a carport is worth considering.”
The study found that most people who preferred carports over garages were aged between 35 and 44 (36%), followed by those aged 25-34 (35%).
Men were slightly more likely than women to choose carports Murray Bridge over a garage (66% to 62%). Respondents from regional areas were more likely to prefer carports to capital cities (70% to 60%).
Carports Offer Practicality at a Cheaper Investment
Wherever you are in the world, carports remain a practical solution for homeowners and business owners alike as they offer an easier and cheaper investment than a garage.
A carport can fulfil all the functions of a garage, such as storing a vehicle, acting as a workshop, or providing shelter during poor weather conditions; however, there are several advantages that a carport has over a garage that make it a more attractive investment.
One of the main advantages of carports is that they are much cheaper to construct than a garage. This is because carports do not need as many materials; they have a simpler design and generally take less time to build.
Another advantage of carports is that they do not require planning permission from the local authorities, whereas a garage often does. This can save a considerable amount of time and money when obtaining the necessary permits.
Carports also take up less space than a garage, which is an important consideration for many people who have small properties.
Finally, carports are easier to maintain than garages as they do not have doors or windows that need to be regularly cleaned, and they are not as susceptible to weather damage.
